Building off of what I experienced and learned at UNCSA, I am seeking opportunities to refine my skills in project/production management, leading, adapting, and communicating within a professional setting. I am particularly drawn to the themed entertainment industry as well as corporate and scenic fabrication companies, where I can learn from experienced peers, contribute to real-world projects, and explore all possible avenues these industries provide.
My favorite role so far has been Technical Director (TD) for our Spring Opera, Ballymore (opening in April). From the initial bidding and budgeting to our current build phase, I have learned and gained hands-on experience in all aspects of the production process from a TD perspective. It has been a great opportunity to develop and implement my organizational, problem-solving, and project management skills, and I'm excited to see how I can continue to grow and handle this role.
I have loved both Structures and Furniture Construction. It was incredibly fascinating to learn the math behind structural design and its application to theatrical construction and fabrication. I also really enjoyed furthering my knowledge and honing my craft of woodworking and finalizing that with creating my own furniture piece with traditional wooden joinery. (Check out examples on the 'Class Projects' page of both!).
My passion for theatrical construction started in early high school. I've always found joy in hands-on work, and when I first experienced the process of bringing a set to life, I was hooked. It was incredibly exciting to see how my skills could contribute to creating a whole separate world on stage. That experience solidified my desire to pursue this path.
One of the biggest things I learned at UNCSA that I didn't expect was how to own my voice. I gained so much confidence in myself and my decisions, which has been invaluable in collaborative projects. I learned how to not only communicate my ideas effectively, but also to understand and incorporate feedback from other departments or advisors, leading to stronger and more cohesive productions. It's a skill I'll definitely carry with me.
